me: i understand the thernadiers’ characterization was changed so as to add comic relief to the play/film, but i wish they could have gotten it elsewhere given that the thernadiers are without a doubt the most cruel and loathsome characters in the brick and turning them into comic relief erases one of hugo’s central themes about the results of childhood abuse.
