okay this is super nooby but I just ordered a 3ds xl as a bday gift for myself because I want to get back into gaming (I haven’t had any console since the ORIGINAL ds when I was like 10-12, so this is big for me)

anyway, I want to get into pokemon because that whole obsession somehow never reached me as a child and I’ve never picked up a single “real” pokemon game (I did have that electronic pokedex as a kid which I loved, and I also had a pokemon go phase, but that’s literally it)

what’s the best pokemon game for the 3ds that I can get as a beginner? any insight from the gamers would be great!

  1. littlestartemis said: Sun or Moon for the most modern iterations. Ultra Sun and Moon technically have better, more streamlined gameplay but I think their story is miles and miles worse than vanilla Sun and Moon, so make your pick based on if you prefer better writing or gameplay
  2. dark-lady-in-training said: If you can find them, HeartGold and SoulSilver are fun, they’re also remakes of the Silver/Gold/Crystal games, but you get the full nostalgia effect cause you get to battle the 1st Gen gym leader’s too. I just can’t remember if any other game is like that too :/
  3. darkstarcore said: Ultra Sun/Moon is relatively easy, but it’s especially good for beginners! It is also the most recent besides Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. Additionally, you have access to a lot of Pokemon, including nearly every Legendary Pokemon.

Alpha Sapphire and Omega Rudy (or vice versa I don’t remember lol) are remakes of the original sapphire and ruby, but after you complete the game, the amount of Pokémon you have access to skyrockets, including lots of legendaries, so that’s good if you want to have the most pokemon options.
